Today is Christmas Day, it’s also the first of the 12 Days of Christmas. The twelve days refers to the time it took from Jesus being born to the wise men arriving at the crib. The 12th day is known as Epiphany.
Epiphany is also a word used to describe learning or deep realisation. And that’s what you can get here over the next 12 days. We’ll run through the most popular Never A Truer Word content of 2022 and with each post there will be a lesson or nugget that you can take with you and use as you like. Your own epiphany!
It will be a Christmas crash course in analysing statements.
Let’s do day one.
It’s a look at a story in the UK that became known as Wagatha Christie. It involves the falling out of two footballer’s wives. In this post, we look at the social media row that started the story.
The lesson here is to look for the emotion in words, or the absence of them. Colleen Rooney is mostly straight-forward and direct in her words, while Rebekah Vardy used a lot more emotive language to plead innocence. The court found in Rooney’s favour.
If you want to see if someone is being truthful, look at how much or how little emotional language they are using to describe their situation. Too much, and it’s likely they are trying too hard to persuade you of wha they are saying.
Here’s the post…
