What are the real-world uses of analysing statements?
Here and on social media, I tend to use the principles of Truthful Deception to look at people in the news and true crime cases. It’s my way of showing what can be done and, hopefully, educating others to look into words more closely.
Away from the public side my work on this matter falls into two main areas.
Crime investigation - consulting with those who are working on old or cold cases. I work to give insight by looking at statements given and suggesting investigative routes to go down and testing theories.
HR and workplace issues - in the business world I help companies in two matters. Firstly, in the recruitment process, analysing CVs and covering letters to unearth deception and match the most promising candidates to the roles open.
Secondly, helping with internal investigations. Looking at statements and evidential writing to suggest where the truth is in cases and further questions to ask of those under investigation.
There are further applications such as helping with negotiations, creating effective communications and personality profiling. All of which are fascinating to be involved in and produce effective results.
